Although its nickname translates to “Mexican Eagle,” the Crested Caracara is not a true eagle, it belongs to the falcon family and is one of the most fascinating raptors found across our region.

This striking bird often seen soaring over open fields, ranchlands, and coastal habitats throughout South Texas. With its bold markings, bright orange facial skin and confident presence, this unique bird has become a very beloved symbol of our region.
